Yes, THE DRY is still with us and in spite of it, Nature calls us to look for a different kind of beauty or maybe just look a little harder to discover her gifts.
Looking for inspiration? Look no further than Nature.
The Chinese Date Plum has put aside its bare winter coat and is sending out green buds of hope and joy. This tree changes daily and what were little hints of green a week ago are now emerging leaves and flower buds. Within a few days there will be sweet little yellow flowers, looking like tiny cups with curled edges. and the bees will be arriving with all their aunts, uncles and cousins twice removed. the tree will be literally a-buzz with activity.
If you have a Grey Shrike Thrush sharing your garden, then count yourself 0h-so-lucky! Here at Casa Nostra we have a pair and their song is a source of constant delight. The Little Cellar Rat thought she heard a new songster and went down to investigate. No, it was the thrush! Perhaps they are singing their Welcome Spring song. For a specimen that is plain and brown, the song is magnificent. Maybe that is Nature’s way of balancing things out. What do you think?

HILL OF PROMISE WINERY & CELLAR DOOR – CHILDERS
For guests wanting to enjoy a meal out…. and a drink, without having to worry about driving to and fro, why not think about contacting the CHILDERS PUB BUS. Guests have already availed themselves of this service and highly recommended it.
Terranzo the Winemaker and Maria the Little Cellar Rat feasted on roast Lamb over the weekend. Locals Rosie and Ray ANDERSON hand feed their DORPERS with corn and chick peas and it shows in the flavour and tenderness of the meat. Ray and Rosie supply Buck and Wade GOODEN from BUCK’S BUTCHER SHOPPE – CHILDERS with lamb when they can. Buck and Wade have consistenly top quality meats and small goods, smoked and made on site and are always generous with advice and tips on the best cuts and suggestions on how to prepare their product.
buona cucina!!
There is always a great sense of excitement and anticipation with a new release and in the past few weeks its been E and A X 2 with: :
the bottling of our latest dry red 3 MEN AND THE MOON 2017, a medium bodied blend of Cab/Sav and Shiraz. Terranzo and the Little Cellar Rat have been taste-testing it with a variety of dishes from home-made pizza to slow cooked Country Hot Pot of lamb chops, to a full Lamb roast to Pasta alla Bolognese. The LCR has picked up a flavour profile of dark cherry, plum and a hint of cedar box.
and the disgorging and release of the latest 3 Marys SPARKLING and in this case it’s back to the original MUSCAT and no, it is not sweet, it’s a delicious just off dry with flavours of white peach, rose petal and finishing with dried orange rind. You are welcome to disagree with these completely …. but you’ll have to try it to know! more details…. go to OUR WINES PAGE
You stay for the little things you can’t buy.
Birds in all shapes and sizes gravitate towards a place that provides shelter, food, variety in foliage, corridors of plantings.
We are privileged to be surrounded by birdsong – Rufous Whistlers, Grey Shrike Thrushes, Spangled Drongoes, Mr Willy Wagtail and the Red Wren (when you can catch him, he is super speedy!)all freely offered in joy.
‘Cosiness’ is one of those evocative words that can mean different things to different people. If it means a ‘little place and space’ where you can leave aside the hassles of the day to day world of dead-lines, decision-making, time-tables then timber in all its nuances certainly helps create an ambience of cosiness that nurtures.
It’s what we like to offer our guests.
Another reason to choose BNB.
